Basic packing kit

For a standard flat:

  • 20-40 boxes of various sizes (20-75 MDL each)
  • 2-3 rolls of stretch film (200 MDL each)
  • 2-3 rolls of tape
  • 1-2 rolls of bubble wrap
  • Markers, gloves, cutter

By item type

Dishes and fragile

Each plate in bubble wrap. Plates on edge, not flat. Glasses individually wrapped, vertical, fill gaps with crumpled paper. Label "FRAGILE. KITCHEN".

Appliances

  • Fridge: defrost 24h before, wipe. Tape shelves shut.
  • Washer: drain water, lock drum with transport bolts.
  • Microwave, TV: in original box or bubble wrap + cardboard.

Clothes

Seasonal — in vacuum bags (70-100 MDL) — take 4× less space. Suits on hangers in garment bag.

Books

In small boxes! A big one with books weighs 30-50 kg. Flat, alternating direction.

Furniture

  • Disassemble removable parts
  • Screws in zip-bag taped to furniture
  • Glass shelves — separately in bubble wrap
  • Sofa — in stretch film
  • Bed and mattress — separate covers

5 mistakes

  1. Boxes too heavy — max 20 kg.
  2. Unlabeled boxes — hours wasted searching.
  3. No cushioning — fragile breaks.
  4. Documents in common box — separate, always with you.
  5. No photo of electronics — won't remember which cable goes where.

Tips

  • Colored tape by room
  • Plastic wrap around open drawers
  • Thin plates between towels
  • Light bulbs and chandeliers — each in a sock
  • Flowers in box with holes, damp paper on top
